Zoe Forster

Zoe Forster lives and works in North West Cumbria. The people and the landscape of the area are imperative to her work. Her ongoing project ‘Ordinary People’ uses 16mm film to create moving portraits that celebrate her rural hometown of Silloth and the surrounding industrial areas. Zoe describes her work as “[a] growing archive of the everyday” and “a physical database of her community and their histories”.
In her project 'West Cumbria Kids', funded by Arts Council England, Zoe gave 40 children Ilford black and white film cameras and asked them to record how the world looks from their point of view. The outcome was an honest, celebratory look at everyday life in Cumbria.
